What is an I-94 record?
The electronic I-94 Record is issued to you by CBP at the time of entry into the U.S. at a sea or air port of entry. Beginning in April 2013, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stopped issuing paper card I-94 records and begin issuing electronic I-94 records. Visitors entering the U.S. by air should now be issued electronic I-94 records and CBP officials will stamp the passport of the traveler indicating the date of admissions, visa type, and authorized period of stay.
Why is the I-94 record important?
Your electronic I-94 record is important because it lists your authorized period of stay and shows legal entry to the United States. You will use your I-94 record when checking in with OIE or when applying for a driver's license, social security number, OPT, etc. Therefore, it is important that you're able to properly access your electronic I-94 record.
