Tuition and Fees

For information on the amount of tuition and fees you will need to pay, please refer to the Bursar's website.

Note: All international students holding an F or J visa and pursuing a Georgia Tech degree will be assessed a $100 fee per enrollment semester. This fee allows Georgia Tech to continue to provide comprehensive services and activities to serve and support our international students at the university.

Financial Planning for Arrival

  • Your student bill will be due by the 2nd Monday of the semester. For deadlines, visit the Bursar's website.
  • How to Pay your Bill at GT: See the Bursar’s Payment Options website for details: there are several payments options for Georgia Tech students such as wire transfer or by check!
  • Refund Information: If you are owed money due to an overpayment, the Bursar's office will return any overpayment by directly depositing the refund into your checking or savings account. Therefore, if you are owed money, you will need to have already opened a bank account. To sign up for direct deposit visit the Direct Deposit website. Please note that if you are a student employee of Georgia Tech and have signed up for direct deposit of your paycheck, the Bursar's Office refund process is done on a different system and you must sign up separately per the instructions below or you will not receive your student refund in a timely manner.
  • GRA/GTA Payment Program: Monthly paid GRA/GTAs may enroll in payroll deduction. Payroll deduction may be taken for any balance not covered by Aid on the student's Bursar account (tuition, fees, housing, etc).  For more information visit the Bursar' Website.
  • When you arrive at Georgia Tech, it is very easy to set up a checking account at a local bank so you can have convenient access to your money. You can find more information about opening a bank account at 'Opening a U.S. bank account.'
  • Budgeting for Initial Expenses: Make sure to budget for extra move-in costs during your first month, in addition to the normal living expenses. Most housing leases and utility contracts such as electricity and water will require security deposits. A security deposit is a fee, sometimes refundable, which is required in addition to the monthly charge to protect against unexpected damage or financial loss. It is also important for students with on-campus employment such as a GRA/GTA position to take into account there can be a time lag before receiving the first paycheck.

General Financial Tips and Advice

Opening a U.S. Bank Account

Choosing a Bank

There are many banks in the local area that offer several types of savings and checking accounts. Make sure to consider the following before choosing a bank.

  • What are the fees for wiring money from overseas?

  • What is the minimum balance required? Is there a penalty if my balance goes below the minimum?

  • Will my checking account earn any interest?

  • What will I pay in monthly service charges?

  • Are there branches or ATM machines near Georgia Tech and where I live?
