Georgia Tech’s J-1 Student internship program provides unique opportunities for students to gain practical experience while conducting research in their academic field. The internship program is a structured work-based learning program that reinforces an intern's academic study, exposes them to American techniques, methodologies, and expertise, expands their knowledge and skills, and enhances their knowledge of American culture and society.
Faculty host members and prospective student interns are the first connections to determine whether the student academic study aligns with the faculty host’s research area.

Inviting a J-1 Student Intern at Georgia Tech
The Faculty Host Supervisor works closely with the Human Resources administrator within the academic unit, who will start the process with the Administrative Services Center (ASC) to submit the Hiring & Hosting Eligibility Determination e-forms in istart. Once the Hiring & Hosting e-forms are approved, OIE will recommend that the HR administrator submit the J Student Intern request e-form, allowing OIE to issue the DS-2019 and DS-7002 forms to the student.
