As an enrolled student at Georgia Tech, you were automatically enrolled in the Student Blue Health Insurance Plan for the time of your enrollment. After graduation and when the period of the Student Blue Health Insurance Plan coverage ends, you will no longer be enrolled in an insurance plan and should seek personal medical insurance. Student Blue health insurance for the 2018-19 ends on July 31, 2019. Effective on August 1, 2019 Georgia Tech will have a new student health insurance provider: United Healthcare. BCBS Student Blue insurance will not be available after July 31, 2019. If you choose, you may purchase United Healthcare student insurance in order to give you coverage after your graduation. Please go to https://health.gatech.edu/finance/insurance for more information, contact information for United Healthcare, and a link to enroll in United Healthcare student insurance; note that you will need to purchase the Voluntary Plan. If you will graduate in the Summer 2019 semester or after, OIE recommends that you contact United Healthcare before you graduate in order to confirm the details of Voluntary student health insurance and that you are within an appropriate timeline.
If the company or organization that you will be working for does not provide insurance coverage, OIE recommends that you seek personal medical insurance. We are unable to provide any recommendations on insurance providers, but you are encouraged to find an insurance plan that meets your personal needs. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a federal statute that aims to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance, lower the uninsured rate by expanding insurance coverage, and reduce the costs of healthcare for individuals and the government. The GA Tech United Healthcare student insurance is ACA compliant.
